Create Beautiful Designs

Science education is now focused within the STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) fields which works very well in elementary education as it allow for multi-disciplinary and cross field learning. However, before getting into STEM, it is important to explore the history and Nature of Science upon which STEM is founded on. While we will be discussing this in more length in class, however the following video and articles provide and excellent foundation for our class activities. Be sure to view/read them before class.

Reflection QuestionsAfter viewing the video and reading the short articles, use these guiding questions to help frame your understanding for our class discussions and activities.
  1. Why is science and STEM education needed in elementary and middle school education?
  2. What is the Nature of Science (NOS) as it has developed throughout history and is presented in the article?
  3. How will these concepts impact your practice as a teacher?

Edtech & AI ChallengeAfter viewing the video and reading the short articles, use your favorite AI Program to write a summary of the following prompts:
  1. Write a 2 paragraph summary of the Nature of Science in elementary education and have AI include two examples.
  2. Create a list of 3 reasons why teachers should know what the Nature of Science is in elementary education that includes 20-40 word rationales for each reason.
Did the summary and reasons for knowing the Nature of Science in elementary education match what we have been learning in class? Do you have any different ideas or strategies on understanding the Nature of Science?
