Create Beautiful DesignsSection #2: National and Utah State Science & Engineering Education Standards
In class we explored and discussed how science standards were developed at both the national and state levels. Here you can access and explore both national and state standards in the following task. It is important to know how to access these standards and educational resources for the state you want to teach in. Please complete the following task below for our in class discussions during Module 1. Task: Explore the following website for the grades and topics you would like to explore with your students this term. You want to explore the Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS) and Utah's Science Engineering Education (SEEd) standards. Also find the science standards from another state or US territory you are interested in or might want to teach at in the future. The links for NGSS and SEEd are below. You will have to find science standards for other states/territories on your own. Website: Next Generation Science Standards (Links to an external site.) Website: Utah Science Engineering Education Standards (Links to an external site.) Be sure to bookmark both of these websites on your computer. We will be exploring both in depth this term and the UEN SEEd site has many excellent STEM resources and activities for K-12 students. National Science Teaching Association There is no textbook for this course but we will reading and using educational resources from the National Science Teaching Association (NSTA) (Links to an external site.). Your membership is required for course licensing and access permissions to many of the resources we are using in this course. NSTA is the premier K-12 science education organization in the United States and provides quality articles, lesson plans, conferences and professional development for teachers. You will need to purchase a one year membership ($40 at the student rate) which can be found here: Student Membership NSTA. (Links to an external site.)
