Science Education around the World
The One Laptop per Child Program (OLPC): I have begun exploring the potential for the OLPC program in this hemisphere. OLPC provides low cost computers to children around the world. In addition to teaching core subjects, the tablets have the capability to explore some elementary science concepts. As a part of my research into this program I submitted a research application with the Organization of American States (OAS) to study the effectiveness of these programs in this hemisphere. I was recently notified that my application would be streamlined for consideration. As a finalist in this category of research I am both honored and excited to be considered for this important work. Recently, the OLPC program notified me that they would be sending a machine to me in order that I can begin to conduct research in the area of science education.
